SCISSOR SISTERS

Patchwork Punk

"You have a better life if you wear impressive clothes," says Vivienne Westwood, who, with cohort Malcolm McLaren, was a pioneer of the early British punk look. Scissor Sisters front-man Jake Shears has taken this advice to heart, often performing in a pair of leather patchwork Westwood hip-huggers that showcase his wispy, 27 inch waist. Learning of Shears' fondness for her threads, the designer invited the band to raid the vault at her London headquarters in 2003. Life's been peachy ever since.

Rolled Gold

For their festival-closing performance at this year's Coachella, the Scissor Sisters performed in gold lamé getups that recalled '70s Bowie at his sharpest. Their new, glam-influenced look is the brainchild of New York designer and L.A.M.B consultant Zaldy, whose collaboration with the Scissors was born when Shears off-handedly asked him for stylist suggestions for the band's upcoming album and tour. "I told him, 'I'll do it,'" says Gwen Stefani's notoriously perfectionist right-hand man. "Jake said, 'You've got the time?' I said, 'For you? Sure!'"

Collaboration Is The Sincerest Form of Flattery

The Scissor Sisters claim they didn't become familiar with the music of Elton John until after the release of their debut self-titled album. This, in spite of the fact that Shears sometimes sounds eerily like John and dresses as the superstar did in his glam hey-day. Their appreciation of the iconic ivory tickler has apparently grown: Sir Elton will be featured on the track, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" off their upcoming sophomore effort, Ta-Dah, which hits stores this fall.
