BEYONCÉ
Family Affair
Beyoncé's House of Deréon ready-to-wear collection debuted in 2005, blending street style with a touch of couture. The label, which is named after Beyoncé's seamstress grandmother, Agnes Deréon, is a collaboration with former J.Lo design consultant Heather Thomson Schindler and Beyoncé's mom, Tina Knowles. The family's fashion tradition is about to be extended further; Beyoncé's little sister, Solange Knowles will be the face of a new junior collection, called simply Deréon. The new line will feature misses' denims and casual sportswear. With Beyoncé's boyfriend Jay-Z saying he wants kids in the next five years, perhaps we'll also see a Deréon baby line before too long.
Love Italian Style
Fans and fashion critics alike were united in their approval of the Grecian styled black backless number Beyoncé wore to last year's Grammys. The dress was custom cut by Italian designer Roberto Cavalli, whom Beyoncé first met at the Italian's Milan runway show. According to Beyoncé's mother, Tina, the two hit it off instantly, prompting Cavalli to give the singer two of his finest dresses. Beyoncé returned the favor by wearing those dresses on stage during a Destiny's Child tour.
Old School
Beyoncé was hard to miss at the 2005 Academy Awards, performing a record four musical numbers. On those rare occasions when she wasn't on stage, Knowles was still turning heads, looking radiant in vintage Versace.
Sophomore Year
As if starring in a new movie wasn't enough, the soon-to-be Dreamgirls star is set to release her second solo effort, B'day, this fall. Looks like life as an "Independent Woman" is suiting Beyoncé just fine.
